
The teaching potential, equipment and scientific and research programs of the Department of Mechanical Engineering represent a significant support for the development of the domestic industry in the field of mechanical engineering. The Department provides highly qualified experts for the needs of the mechanical industry and implements scientific and research projects that are supported by the Republic Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation, the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia, the Fund for Innovation Activities, as well as the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The Department maintains and expands international ties with other universities and participates in scientific conferences with the aim of advancing in the field of mechanical engineering, thereby influencing the formation of modern research directions.
According to the latest curriculum, accredited in 2021, which is aligned with the programs of world universities, the Department of Mechanical Engineering unifies and implements the teaching process in basic and master academic studies in Mechanical Engineering with the aim of training young engineers.
Scientific activity is implemented within the framework of national projects. In addition, fundamental, applied and developmental research is carried out in the economy and industry through the preparation of diploma, master and doctoral theses, thereby contributing to the overall development of society. The scientific and research work of the members of the department is carried out with the financial support of the Ministry of Science, Technological Development and Innovation (formerly the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development), the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia and the Innovation Fund and the Provincial Secretariat for Higher Education of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina. The Department has achieved recognition of its key results, expressed by citations in prestigious international scientific journals with an impact factor.
The general plans of the Department are to develop the existing educational profile and align it with the needs of the labor market through the accreditation process, and to develop the members of the Department in the scientific and research field through research projects, international conferences, and publications of scientific and research papers.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering fosters cooperation with industry both through scientific and research and development activities and through the implementation of professional practice. Companies in which students are provided with paid professional practice are Continental, Novi Sad, and LeBelier Kikinda. The department has also had successful long-term cooperation with companies from Zrenjanin: Šinvoz, Wood planet, Vrška-Press, Dijamant, Logic, Hidra, Evrobrod, Neimar, Mecaplast, Relja Junior, LMV, Termos, EING, Nemanja Mor, Petkus, VecoWelding, NovaTech 023, Victorija Starch, Geze, as well as outside the city: Termoproces, Belgrade, Zoppas, Kikinda and Metalclaster, Temerin.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering has established cooperation with prominent world and European universities: University Politehnica, Timisoara, Faculty of engineering, Hunedoara, Romania; University «St. Kliment Ohridski«, Technical Faculty, Bitola, Macedonia; „Aurel Vlaicu” University of Arad, Faculty of engineering, Arad, Romania, University of East Sarajevo, Faculty of Mechanical engineering East Sarajevo, Republic of Srpska, B&H, University of Giresun, Faculty of engineering, Giresun, Turkey.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organizes the International Conference Industrial Engineering And Environmental Protection, which has been successfully held since 2011 at the Faculty of Technology "Mihajlo Pupin" in Zrenjanin.
Internationalization and mobility represent a significant contribution to the improvement of scientific competences of teachers and associates, and the Department of Mechanical Engineering encourages the mobility of teachers, associates and students through Erasmus and Cepus exchanges.
